II IN AUTOMOTIVE
UNITS 1- 4
The
aim of the Certificate II in Automotive is to open up a number of pathways
to students. It is best viewed as a whole course covering years 11 &
12. Students can choose to do either the automotive mechanics stream,
or auto-electric stream.
The
course is 'hands on' with a focus on practical work and has great benefits
for who wish to enter apprenticeships.
This
course is open to both VCE and VCAL students.
AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS STREAM
Description: VET Automotive Certificate II gives pre-apprenticeship training
for the automotive industry and is aimed at making students work ready
or equipped for further study. When students complete the full year 12
requirements they will receive dual credits - both for VCE and VET units.
Whether you are interested in a motor industry career or just want to
learn about cars, you will enjoy this subject.

Tasks/activities:
Tasks are designed as much as possible to give hands on experiences and
simulate real workplace situations. The exercises cover safe work practices,
vehicle maintenance and servicing tasks, using tools and specialist equipment,
communication, researching through industry visits, and job seeking skills.
This subject involves both theoretical and practical elements that are
assessed according to workplace standards. Students are also expected
to complete a 40-hour structured work placement.
NB.
Alternate elective modules can be negotiated for students who do not wish
to pursue pre-apprenticeship streams or for students who complete all
set tasks early.
